The Art of Barbering: A Journey of Passion,
Connection, and Community Building

Jerry Alvarez: Owner & Operator
of Jay Dee's Classic Barbershop

Jerry Alvarez was drawn to the profession of barbering at an early age, having grown up in the energetic Bay Area. His love for this trade has burned brightly since high school, and in 2004, he decided to start his career as a barber. This choice has had a significant impact on his perspective on life and his profession.

To Jerry, barbering transcends the mere act of giving haircuts. Creating and realizing people’s vision for themselves is a powerful experience. Every haircut is a chance for him to empower, encourage, and boost his clients’ self-esteem. Jerry wants to help people walk taller in their skin and accept their true selves through the transformational power of a haircut.

Jerry is dedicated to developing sincere relationships with clients outside of the chair. He thinks that genuine friendships founded on mutual respect, trust, and understanding are more important than business partnerships. In addition to being a barber, Jerry sees himself as a life coach, a confidant, and a mentor. Jerry is satisfied by offering individuals seated in his chair a listening ear, direction, and a rock of support.

In addition to his work as a barber, Jerry is deeply involved in coaching kids in football. In the same way that he works hard to motivate and encourage his customers in the barbershop, he is committed to developing and coaching the next wave of young football players. Through coaching, Jerry develops teamwork, discipline, and tenacity in his athletes, preparing them to become future community leaders as well as athletes.

Jerry’s journey as a barber is a testament to his unwavering belief in the power of human connection and community building. He is dedicated to bringing optimism and empowerment into the lives of people around him with every haircut, every interaction, and every shared experience. One customer, one haircut, and one game at a time; he is proud to be a barber, a mentor, a coach, and most importantly, a community builder.
